Power of our Words

Our words are powerful! They shape our lives. This is why we must Speak Life and teach our children to choose their words wisely.

As a mom to 3 young children, I have closely watched them as they seek identity... Who am I? Who did God create me to be? What has He called me to do? What makes me special? Why am I different? Is good or bad that I am different? What do I like? What do I dislike? Who should I seek approval from? Should I try to fit in with the cool kids? Am I a cool kid?

....The way they discover the answers to these questions is by what they hear from those around them. We may have grown up hearing that old cliche: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” That could not be further from the truth. Our words carry tremendous power! They can either build up or tear down... And they have lasting impact! That is why we need to choose them very wisely.

The Bible talks SO MUCH about the Power of our WORDS & how they shape our lives. James 3:4-5 says: “Take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.” This passage implies that our words steer the direction of our lives. It also says in Proverbs 18:21 that the power of life and death are in our tongue!

The adolescent years from elementary all the way through high school are very critical times in developing confidence and character. I personally believe we, as parents, friends, teachers, pastors & coaches, play a major role in helping the youth within our sphere of influence develop a healthy self-image.

We can do this by using our words to encourage and SPEAK LIFE over them. The world our kids live in today is so different from the times we grew up in. They feel an enormous amount of pressure to be perfect or at least appear that way on social media. They live in a comparison culture where they never feel good enough and are constantly striving to keep up with the latest trends to fit in. So many are completely confused about who they are and don’t believe they have any worth or value because the amount of negative they hear on a daily basis screams at them. When all the while God is whispering “You are loved” , “You are a champion”, “I have great plans for you.”

Speak Life Confession Cards are a way for us to combat those negative voices in our heads that tell us we are never good enough, we will never amount to anything, we can’t do that, no one loves us, etc..... The only way to combat these negative thoughts is with positive words, or CONFESSIONS of TRUTH. The truth of who God says you are, what God says you can do, have and become... and just how loved & valuable you are.

By teaching our children (and ourselves) these simple CONFESSIONS, we can combat the negative self-image that often comes with living in this fallen world. A world that puts so much pressure on our youth that they lose their identity and start to believe the lies of the enemy. This is a tragedy and the reason WHY I created "SPEAK LIFE - CONFESSION CARDS.”
